Robotic Sculpture by Keith Farley

As a recent development from the interactive sculpture I've created in the past, what you'll see in the photographs below is a robotic sculpture that's currently incomplete. Despite its current state, I was encouraged to exhibit it in September 2008at Semantics Gallery in Cincinnati. Despite its incomplete state, I felt comfortable enough to participate in the show. I shot pictures as the exhibition closed, this being the first time I've photographed it at all AND under less than ideal conditions. They at least provide very basic documentation. In the photos, I focus mostly on the center and left hand portions...they're the ones that are most fully resolved at this point...

The only possible exceptions...I think I've roughly reached a quasi-level of resolution in the establishment of the movements by the Ganesha and Shiva finger puppets, although their movements could certainly be tweaked further. There's also a great deal to be done to further develop and finalize the surfaces, more fully expanding the LED arrays, additional imagery, establishing the ideal type of paper on which to present the photographic images, etc. Also as you'll likely gather, there's no way a still photograph will ever be able to convey the robotic manifestations of such a piece...the dancing Ganesha gyrating as he reaches down and coaxes pages from one side to the other in an attempt to reveal the next photograph, the gyrating and bobbing Shiva seen to the left, the several flashing LED arrays providing a chaotic form of backlighting for some photographic images from our journeys to India. Once I progress further toward the completion of this piece, I definitely plan to commit some time to documenting the piece using video...at which point I'll certainly make it available.

Also available are the same pictures in a slideshow format that can be seen at
