This particular citrine was of interest to me for more than one reason. To begin with, it's of a very deep amber honey color, one that I've rarely seen in citrine. Secondly, it was cut in such a wildly asymmetrical fashion that it nearly defied setting. It could certainly never be put into any sort of commercial setting. And I can rarely resist such a challenge...

I spent considerable time attempting to work out some sort of design that would accentuate the citrine. I carved a wax into which this asymmetrical gemstone could be secured. I allowed for plenty of light to enter not only from the top of the stone, but also from the sides and from underneath, allowing for the stone to be as bright as possible. I chose to use a minimal row of diamonds in one of the supports for the citrine. It forms a soft "V" shape and additionally serves to protect that portion of the stone. In the underside of the ring are three channel set diamonds.
