Platinum Engagement Ring With Princess Cut Diamond

A customer asked me to help locate a very high quality princess cut diamond weighing between .60 and .75 carat. After having assembled several diamonds from which to choose, he selected a .70 carat diamond. Since a princess cut diamond doesn't have standard dimensions, the stone had to be chosen first, as I had to have the particular diamond in hand before setting to work making a wax model.

In a not dissimilar manner than many of the other rings I make, this approach to setting the diamond causes the ring to look in many ways like a tension set ring.
There is only enough metal passing directly beneath the stone create a place for the inverted blue diamond to be set while still tying the two sides of the ring together. The princess cut diamond is in reality channel set, a much safer method of securing a stone than tension set. This type of ring has the added advantage of being able to be re-sized where a tension set ring cannot. In addition to the visual dynamic created between the princess cut and inverted blue diamond, a pair of sapphires, one yellow and one blue, are set in the underside of the ring and have a personal symbolism to the couple. ***Please note that a similar ring could be made of gold.
