Included in the quartz family the stone known as citrine which generally comprises the yellow to orange portion of the family. The three examples I've provided above are fantasy cut citrines that were created by Lew Wackler.

Citrine and other members of the quartz family, the most notable examples being amethyst and ametrine, are fairly hard and reasonably durable. However, the surface of one of these gems can certainly be scratched over time and pointed projections or corners need to be provided protection.
This, of course, can be said of any gemstone.
